The Value of 3A Certification
Food processing equipment focused on food safety has never been more important.
Media coverage of food recalls has heightened consumer awareness and increased their vigilance to know if the products they buy are safe.
The FDA Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA), the most sweeping reform to our food safety laws in more than 70 years, was signed into law in 2011.
It aims to ensure the U.S. food supply is safe by shifting the focus from responding to contamination to preventing it.
SPX FLOW has been committed to providing our customers with equipment that complies with the primary governing organizations -- including 3A and EHEDG.
Our pumps, valves, scraped surface heat exchangers, separators and homogenizers display these certification symbols to give our customers the peace of mind they need to ensure their end-products will be safe.
While most food manufacturers know that 3A certification is important, they often don’t have a clear understanding of what it takes for equipment to be approved for this gold standard of food safety.
Preparation for and participation in the required Third Party Verification (TPV) process conducted by a Certified Conformance Evaluator (CCE) includes a site visit to review the design, parts, and quality management system.
The equipment must comply with 3A general standards as well as any model specific standards.
You’ll find the 3A symbol on many prominent SPX FLOW process components – including our Waukesha Cherry-Burrell (WCB) and APV centrifugal and positive rotary pumps - giving you the assurance that your equipment can be properly cleaned and your inspection process is streamlined because you’re in compliance with regulatory standards.
